Welcome to the Pixel Kingdom: A land of the past, a land of fairy tales and legends. Many stories are still told about its former glory, fame and fortune, love and laughter, myth, and mystery.

Yet the once fabled kingdom collapsed when the old king died without an heir. After chaos settled, four new kings took power and divided the country into four kingdoms. They are either fighting or keeping a fragile peace, but more immediate danger is lurking from all sides. Other powers are slowly turning their eyes to what was once so legendary. Who will unite the Pixel Kingdom and take its crown to defend it, will you?

Hey, we are Marco and André,

Coming from developing digital video games, the lockdown brought us back to the roots of analogue gaming. During our journey back to the origins we discovered the amazing playing cards community and enjoyed it so much that we decided to try and give something back.

The Pixel Kingdom playing cards – Meticulously handcrafted, pixel by pixel and expertly designed by Artur Fast. Made for collectors, dreamers, retro game fans and card enthusiasts just like you!

You have probably already seen 8-bit playing cards by now, but we want to bring pixel playing cards into a new era!

Pixel Kingdom is inspired by 16-bit graphics in a modernized way.

Just as Pixel Kingdom is a romantic representation of the Middle Ages, so is the 16-bit pixel art. It is meant to represent how players remember classic games, not how they actually looked.

Pixel Kingdom is more than just another deck of cards.

Our court cards are based on three pillars: Theme, Storytelling and Tradition.

1. Artur created an amazing late medieval style for our courts, inspired by fairy tales, ballads, and retro games like King’s Quest.

2. We took our experience from designing games to create deep characters with a back story.

3. All designs are influenced by the traditional court cards to stay true to the fascinating history of playing cards.

1. Theme

2. Storytelling

3. Tradition

The story explanation card will include the story for one of the characters. If you provide us with the chance to do multiple versions of the deck, they will include more stories, until all characters are fully unravelled.

For example, look at the suspicious Jack of Spades and the grim King of Diamonds also known as the one-eyed king, what happened between them?

Look into the face of the Queen of Diamonds, is she secretly the evil stepmom old fairy tales warn us about?

We invite you to leave your interpretations in the comments.

The aces are highly ornamented and intricately designed.

The custom pips are smaller than traditional to emphasise the delicate pixel art. Each number card contains a small version of the Aces as a focal point. This will make them stand out from the negative space, as the Pixel Kingdom does compared to its neighbouring kingdoms.

The Jokers are showing two sides of Pixel Kingdom, one of them is a classic Jester entertaining at the royal court, while the other one is a far travelled Fool.

The ad card is marked with the year 2020 which will never be used again in another print run. The story explanation card will stay a mystery for now.

The backs are coloured in a rich red and designed to be elegant, intricate, and full of little details.

There are numerous decorative elements starting with the four Queens in the corners, through holy grails, all the way to the two central crowns representing the Pixel Kingdom.

The tuck box has been elegantly designed, featuring embossing and gold foil and will be expertly produced by Gambler’s Warehouse.

The tuck is marked with the year 2020 which will never be used again in another print run.

The golden foil and embossing on the thin ornamented frames represent the royalty of the Pixel Kingdom, while the embossed center proudly presents the heart of every kingdom, its crown.

During Kickstarter project, each Backer will receive exclusive excess to our pixel kingdom Solitaire, which we quickly developed during the initial launch of the campaign.
