Heartless is a wicked series of poker playing cards. It’s designed by Thirdway Industries, famous for seductive ladies and evil creatures – often combined.
Anyways – the story here is about the Nether, a wild version of Hell populated by moronic Imps, hot demonesses, and fierce devils who’ve lost their dark hearts. Fasten your seatbelts, folks–and hang onto your souls.
This project is devious, but simple. Just two decks: Abyss, printed by Cartamundi, and Nether, printed by LPCC. Both decks are rare and luxurious, but Nether is more limited (only 888 printed), lavishly gilded, and boasts two hot foils on the card backs! Wo-hoo!
The type of guy who reads a lot of books might say that Heartless decks are “classic French playing cards, haunted by demons,” but I’d just call ‘em… wicked awesome! They’re fully custom, and great to play (or perform) with. Not your basic, boring cards.
Apart from the red or white backgrounds, the faces of Nether and Abyss are similar, but not exactly the same. There are small differences. Can you spot ‘em all?
If you like your decks shiny, you’re gonna love this: the card backs are an ode to foil. The Abyss back sparkles with a single layer of gold foil and red ink.
The Nether back dazzles the eye with two different layers of hot foil: crimson and violet.
The Nether deck is fit for a King (of Hell): it’s gilded with violet metallic foil.
Nether and Abyss each have their own unique Jokers, featuring fancy portraits of our most infamous Devil Lords.
And the pips? Standard number cards are yawn-worthy, at best, but Heartless pip cards include intricate graphics in metallic ink in the background. We’re here to impress!
Like all TWI decks, Heartless is more than just eye candy. There is a story and endless lore to be explored as you delve into the deepest caverns of the Nether.
Heartless Abyss is the flagship deck of the series, featuring foil-on-back (cold as a Demon’s Heart) and a slick tuck box made in Italy by Boschiero&Newton.

Nether face cards have a bright red background and metallic inks. The characters are slightly different compared to Abyss.
Double hot foil on Nether backs
Us demons know humans love shiny things, so we used TWO supershiny hot-foils on the Nether card backs. Here is the boring technical explanation by our card-nerd designer:
Hot foil is the brightest foil available, but usually it’s less accurate than cold foil. I have only made a few hot foiled decks so far (the most popular was Pantheon Original).
Using more than one hot foil color is tricky, because each color is printed separately using a different plate, which can lead to alignment issues. From the prototype above, LPCC did an excellent job.
Hot foil is a non-invasive technology that keep the cards very natural. Nether cards won’t bend and should handle very smoothly.
Heartless Lore:
Fellow fiends, I’m sorry to say that the problem is worse than expected. “The Bright Turmoil,” as it has been termed by our experts, is spreading rapidly.
Imps, Demons, and even Devil Lords like ourselves have been tainted by this creeping contagion. We don’t know if it’s a plague, a curse, or something worse.
Here’s what we do know: this is changing us from the inside. Imps are less eager to annoy the demonesses, and they often collide mid-air—which is fun to see, but very alarming.
There are reports of Devils cleaning their homes, and some have even started to bathe! Worst of all, none of us seem to care about hurting sinners anymore!
This could be a disaster; a catastrophe! We must discover the cause and eliminate it, at any cost.
Heartless tells the story of an alternative version of Hell that is falling apart in the wake of a mysterious affliction known as “The Bright Turmoil.” With fierce devils, seductive demonesses, moronic imps, and hefty doses of intrigue and betrayal, Heartless has all the ingredients necessary for a wildly humorous story. I hope you enjoy it!
You know, Nether used to be a pretty nice place. I used to be able to stroll through the torture fields, surrounded by bloodthirsty demons at their work. I could enjoy the heat of a furnace, and hum along to the beat of crackling flames and sinners’ screams.
Things were going so well here that we were thinking of starting up a little war against our feather-winged neighbors upstairs–just for kicks.
Then SHE appeared, all innocent-faced and cutesy, as if she’d fallen from a blue sky and just happened to land on a pile of cheap feather pillows.
I hated her from the first moment I saw her, but even before that, our beloved Hell had started to change.
