“As a cyberpunk, you grab technology by the throat and hang on. You’ve got interface plugs in your wrists, weapons in your arms, lasers in your eyes. Byochi programs in your brain. You become the car you drive, the gun you shoot…with cyborged fingers you pick computer locks; with enhanced senses, you see into the future…”
― Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2020

The entire cyberpunk world is based on a simple foundation: Body Enhancement. It doesn’t matter if you are part of the high society living at the top of the skyscrapers, a bureaucrat lucky enough to be in the middle tier, or someone born in the dirt of the lower city, everyone needs CYBERWARE. Every single day megacorporations spend billions to flood our senses with ads for new must-have Cyberware. If you cannot afford it, you can always buy it cheaper with the right contact at the expense of counter effects and malfunction.

With that idea in mind, we started to create court cards based on the most iconic cyberpunk groups (techs, agents, hackers, and sleeves). We chose to go for an illustrated approach, so, in order to do that, we partnered with @deckidea. His artwork is amazing and matched the theme perfectly. Cyberware is also a very special deck, because we were able to print amazing prototypes and also work on our first foiled tuck box.

Cyberware – Rogue
Rogues are always on the go. Rolled over by the corporations, hated by the police, they migrate from town to town, in search of jobs or merc gigs. They are always on alert mode with their gear and cars ready. These are the elements that inspired the bright orange and shining silver foil on our intense black tuck box.

Cyberware – Neontech
Inspired by the lower city neon lights and nightlife, the Neontech color scheme is a representation of “style over substance.” Doesn’t matter the reference, Blade Runner 2049, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell, Battle Angel Alita, or Cyberpunk 2077, the triad is always there: Yellow, Cyan, and Purple command Cybercity.

Identities, payments, gear patents, life reboots, secrets… Our back cards were inspired by the central AI in which everyone and everything is connected in Cybercity. Every Cyberware is somehow connected to the core, so our dependency on the machine never ends.

ACES
Designing the aces was a difficult task given the number of references. However, once we saw the new matrix teasers our affective memory spoke louder. The aces are based on their head plugs, the most iconic symbol of the connection between the body and the machine.

Number Cards
All the number cards have an energy bar in the corners that increases with the card number value. They also feature the name of the suit and the card number value.

Every Cyberware needs a registry, especially when you are one of the first to acquire it. Our first 50 backers (regardless of the reward) will have their names printed on our extra card. Be quick, they go really fast.

Each court card was hand-drawn from scratch. They were the start of our deck and are the point where we deep-dove into the cyberpunk theme. All four suits represent an iconic cyberpunk group:

♠ Spades – Techs

Not part of the lower level but also far from a place in the corporations. They have found in their Cyberware a way of living: fixing, modifying, and smuggling for those who can´t afford it.

♥ Hearts- Federation

Despite being governed by corporations, the law enforcement path should not be crossed lightly. Their agents might not be as well equipped as the corporate agents, but their brutality is more than enough to compensate for their lack of gear.

♣ Clubs – Hackers

Being a hacker in the cyberpunk world is about standing up against corporate supremacy and defying authority. Cyberware is just a tool, so you can be one with the network and fight them from the inside out.

♦ Diamonds – Sleeves

Cyberpsychosis is the state one’s mind reaches when the body cannot support the Cyberware’s psychological burden anymore. For those who cannot afford treatment the only way is to transfer their consciousness to an empty cyborg, with the hope of one day being able to return to a human body again.

The editor´s pledge has become a tradition on Excelsior campaigns. It represents the ultimate pledge where the backer becomes one of the deck editors, having a card designed exclusively for them and is present on all decks printed.

The editor´s pledge also receives all the main rewards and add-ons, experiencing all aspects of the campaign with exclusive and unique items created just for this reward. Having two designs and no jokers opened space for us to craft two different editor´s pledges, representing Neontech and Rogue in unique ways.
