The truth is, I’m a photographer by trade and have always loved the look of vintage cameras. As I got more and more into playing cards and started creating my own decks, I started brainstorming on how to bring my love for cameras and photography into this new passion of playing cards.
Looking over images of some of my favorite vintage cameras, it hit me right away. The Rolleiflex was PERFECT!! It had the two-way style design that we are all so used to in the playing card world. Beyond that, I wanted to make a tuck box that people would love. Of course, it had to be camera-related.

I browsed over more images and that’s when I came across the Brownie camera. It was small and would suit the deck perfectly. It would add amazing texture and detail to the deck that would make Boskarta a must-have.

The Boskarta HH Edition is your rugged, dirty everyday carry. Its leather-like feel will surprise you and everyone who touches it. It actually feels like real leather. The thickness of the stock is next level and will look cooler the more you use it.
The HH Edition will feature black embossed foil on the front, with silver foil making up all the other cool details like the screws and lever. The middle of the tuck will have a die-cut hole with thin plastic to look like the lens. It will also have a silver seal that mimics the open mechanism on the actual Brownie model A camera. We want this to look and feel like the real thing.

The Boskarta LUX Edition is the deck you take out when you want to be clean and classy. Its white tuck box is embossed with pearl/holo foil on the front and all the same silver foil details as to its HH counterpart. It just looks a little sexier.

We will also have a silver foil seal that is designed like the real clasp cover as the original Brownie. A nice unique shape that strays from most ordinary deck seals.

The back design pulls all its inspiration from the ever-so-popular Rolleiflex camera which was first introduced in 1929. It’s a two-way back design with a faded vintage appearance.
The Bossie HH Edition will have a dark-colored background with light features and the Bossie LUX Edition will be inversed with a light-colored background and dark features.
Our aces come with the same vintage washed-out look as our number cards and courts. Although they have minor adjustments, they are still easily recognizable. They do have indices in all 4 corners and the enlarged Ace of Spade is inspired by an old vintage flash.
Not many people use film these days, but we thought duplicate film roll Jokers would be a classic addition. They can be used alongside our King of Spade negative gaff to do some really cool magic tricks.

We wanted our court cards to go with the deck perfectly. We wanted standard courts so they were recognizable to the masses. and also something that was vintage to go with our vintage camera theme.
I’ve always loved the vintage look of the Arrco court cards. Arrco Playing Cards was established in 1927 so it definitely screams vintage to us.
The Kings
We did make a minor adjustment to the Arrco courts that we do with all our standard courts on our decks. For some reason, the Jacks are the only court cards that usually have their hair colored in.
The Queens
Looking at that, we always thought the courts were unfinished. So we gave the Kings and Queens hair color as well. Although something very small and most likely unnoticed, we feel it completes the court’s design.

We used standard Arrco numbers and pips on the cards as well. Minus a few fun little changes, we made. A little texture and film segments were added randomly to add that feeling you get when in the developing room. You sometimes get some fun surprises on your shots.

Our gaffs were made to be fun but usable. Each deck comes with a double backer and a negative effect King of Spades.
Bossie HH Edition will have the white opposing double backer while the Bossie LUX will have the black opposing double backer.

Edo Huang
Edo is one of the coolest and most down-to-earth people in the playing card community. Not only is he a stellar designer, but he’s also an amazing magician and photographer. I couldn’t ask for a better person to design this deck. It was right up his wheelhouse in every way. He has designed decks for some of the biggest names in the community. We are so thankful for everything he has done from the design to renders and photography.
