“I love when a deck is not only beautiful, but useful. This deck is both, and so much more. Well done”
-Jeremy Griffith (lost_angelus).
“A very elegant design with powerful secrets. An essential tool for magicians and mentalists”
-Luca Volpe, The Italian Mentalist.
Medusa playing cards are not just a deck, they are a powerful tool for all magicians and mentalists. The deck comes in Mnemonica stack right out of the box , the cards are marked in seven different ways that have been incorporated perfectly into the design in order to be invisible to the spectator’ s eyes. This is the Holy Grail of magic.
This deck opens the door to endless combination of magic tricks and the elegant and timeless design inspired by serpent-headed goddess Medusa makes it perfect to work with.
Mnemonica stack right out of the box.
7 different marking systems.
True linen B9 finish.
Printed by Cartamundi.
2 identical jokers.
1 double face card.
8 of spades duplicate.
Buying the Medusa you will not receive only the cards but also a pdf that reveals the secret of the markings and a video explanation of many routines possible with this deck made by Antonio Cacace.
We wanted to create a worker’s deck for daily use and performance, 52 cards that merges elegance with function. We have been strongly inspired by the standard and timeless decks like the Tally- oh in the creation of this back, we used snakes ( to keep the Medusa theme) as the main element creating patterns surrounded by lines and dots.
Medusa playing cards don’t attract too much attention at the first glance. A positive feature, especially for magicians who don’t want their audience to believe that it is a tricked deck, especially if marked in seven ways.
All the faces have been modified but we kept the total look very similar to a standard decks to be used in any type of performance. Personalized face cards with modern elements take the dust off the original standard cards without destroying the classic look and feel.
The majestic ace of spades has always been regarded as the most pretentious card in a deck of playing cards.
As a crucial card in a deck of cards has been naturally designed to be the most distinctive style respecting the theme and keeping it recognizable.
The jokers have the Medusa logo in the center and two snakes as pips. Everything started from the Medusa logo, to draw it we took inspiration from the famous painting by Caravaggio.
To make Medusa’s face and “hair” we took a lot of inspiration from a sketch by Anton Tokarev we fell in love with.
We redesigned the pips, the suits, the suits’ size and disposition. The faces are now 100% symmetrical. We used a thinner and slightly smaller font for the pips (it is the same font of the logo). We didn’t want anything that’s too fancy, so you have samething familiar but not standard.
The figures as been simplified, resized and recolored. We wanted them to look more simple and elegant as possibile but not standard.
We did not want to be trivial putting in the usual double back and white face so we decided to insert as additional cards:
duplicate 8 of spades
double face card.
The tuck is clean, simple and as similar as possible to the standards not to make the deck suspicious.
As we told you the Medusa deck has seven marking systems that work in “Memonica stack”, the stack introduced by Juan Tamariz and the most popular among magicians. Reading the back of every single card you can know a lot of information:
The deck is marked for value and suit.
Each back also tells you what the previous card was.
If a spectator cuts off a portion of cards, the top card tells you exactly how many cards he is holding.
You can tell how many court cards are in the spectator’s pile.
You can tell how many even and odd cards are in the spectator’s pile.
You can tell how many red and black cards are in the spectator’s pile.
You can also tell the values’ addition of the previous cards.
Each card reveals its own position in the stack
The best feature of these marking systems compared to other marked decks is that they use a code that is very easy to read for those who know the secret, but they are unreable for the spectator, in addition we worked a lot on design to make the marks as hidden as possible for those who do not know where to look. This is a comparison between a card with 7 markings and an unmarked card.
If you are familiar with Mnemonica this adds a new level or you can perform all the effects in Mnemonica without remember the order. You can also mix the deck and use it as a marked deck (for value and suit of every card).
