✴️ This is not a King Star designed deck. It’s designed by 来字! x HEA, printed by King Star Playing Card Company (KSPCC), and fulfilled externally. This is equivalent to the Rising Sun Kickstarter deck designed by Mr Lambert, printed by USPCC, and fulfilled by Gambler’s Warehouse. KSPCC is how King Star makes its bread and butter. What this means, is that you can be assured of the quality of how the cards handle for Cardistry.
🪐 The Chinese culture of lion dancing originated from the Foshan region with a strong sense of national pride, meant to drum up the spirit. Want to have a feast of auspiciousness at your fingertips? The elegant black style, and the double-layer pattern design of light and dark, bring an aesthetic pleasure enjoyment at closer look.
🪐 Card faces are inspired by the Lunar New Year couplets hung by each household door. Elaborate gold ornate decorations add a touch of elegance, by mimicking ancient palace architecture and the exquisite art of paper cutting.
🪐 Huizi patterns/moiré and Chinese characters are integrated into the cards everywhere. The suit cards retain the basic shapes and colors of hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs. Zen patterns and ubiquitous little lions are used for each card. Each card has a strong element of traditional style, creating a realistic handicraft texture which reminds us of carved beams and painted buildings.
🪐 The court cards are presented in capital Mandarin characters, which are unique and generous. They all symbolize longevity, prosperity, auspiciousness, wealth and health.
🪐 About the designers: “来字” uses fonts and typography as a cultural and creative trend brand. We are committed to using fonts to express the life attitude or taste of contemporary young people, so that fonts can come alive out of the computer screen. Strawberry – The project leader is a massive font lover. Everything is a learning process. Her motto is: Be curious and open to challenges.
Yoyo – Design team member who is also a font enthusiast. A brainiac who’s also a creative alien. She hopes that the final result can be enjoyed by everyone.
🪐 This is a collaboration with HEA – Happy Easy Anyway. HEA is a Foshan design brand that focuses on apparel and uses a lion’s head as inspiration for the design of all its products. HEA designer’s brand mark is the lion dance character because of its uniqueness and its deep relation with the Lingnan culture that originated in Foshan.
🪐 HEA partnered up with the China Chapter of The Coca-Cola Collectors Club to create a temporary ad hoc exhibition along with a limited edition of HEA X Coca-Cola t-shirts. Inside the HEA store over 300 Coca-Cola items, from bottles, to mini fridges and memorabilia were wisely displayed matching some of the extraordinary lion dance costumes permanently exposed in the shop. HEA has rich experience in cultural and creative design and development, and has opened 135+ physical stores in China.
